Minimum Qualifications

Age: Must be at least 18 years of age.

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Driver's License: Valid Texas Class C driver's license.

Legal Status: Must be a citizen of the United States.

Screening: Pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and psychological evaluation.

Physical Testing: Successfully pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT).

Medical Fitness: Pass a comprehensive medical physical evaluation by a department physician.

Certification Requirements by Division

Fire Operations Division: Must possess both an active TCFP Structural Firefighter certification and a Texas DSHS / NREMT medical certification (EMT-Basic, EMT-Advanced, or Paramedic). Note: Must also obtain a Texas Class B driver's license during the probationary period.

EMS Division: Must possess a Texas DSHS / NREMT medical certification (EMT-Basic, EMT-Advanced, or Paramedic). Fire certification is not required for this division.
