Ready to fulfill your dreams of becoming a Certified Firefighter? We're looking for like minded individuals who identifies with our ideals and can carry out our mission statement in each and every interaction with citizens of our great community.
Minimum Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must possess a valid Florida drivers license.

Complete and Pass the Public Safety Answers (PSA) test

Must complete and successfully pass the Firefighter Physical Fitness Test administered by Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) between December 9–12.

EMT or Paramedic Certification-Must be certified by the State of Florida by February 1, 2027.

Firefighter I & II Certifications- Must be certified by the State of Florida by February 1, 2027.
3 Step Process
Step 1: Apply with City of Gainesville by:

Step 2: Complete Testing and Video Interview with Public Safety Answers by:
December 1, 2026 - 11:59 pm ET
Step 3: Download and complete Physician Recommendation Form. Bring form to Scheduled FPFT:
