Minimum Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record and insurable under the City's carrier

  • Firefighter I & II certifications

  • State of Idaho or NREMT EMT or Paramedic certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days of a job offer

  • Must be currently employed as a career firefighter with a minimum of 24 months continuous service

Compensation/Benefits

  • Starting Pay: $79,876.16 – $83,720.00*

    • Paramedic Incentive: Eligible paramedics may receive a one-time sign-on bonus of up to $3,000.00 and an additional $1.25 per hour paramedic incentive pay.

  • The City of Caldwell and the Caldwell Professional Firefighters are currently negotiating a successor labor agreement that is anticipated to take effect in October 2026. Compensation rates may be adjusted based on the final negotiated agreement.

  • IAFF Local 1056 represented position

  • Comprehensive benefits package including:

    • IAFF-Medical, dental, and vision

    • City-provided LTD, life insurance, FSA, and wellness benefits

    • PERSI retirement system

    • 401(k) match up to 8.2%

    • 48/96 shift schedule

    • Overtime eligible

    • 48 hours of PTO upon hire, accruing at 24 hours/month after first two months

  • No residency requirement

  • Accelerated recruitment process

    • Job offers early October​

  • 5-6 week Lateral Academy beginning late November

  • Reduced probationary period of 6 months
